Charm Packs

I started this lap quilt over the holidays using the 5" charm packs we love to purchase. This quilt took 2 charm packs of Moda Chocolat to make the blocks. The only fabric which wasn't in my stash was the border and setting triangle fabric, I already had the chenille for the backing as well. I didn't use a pattern but simply used a 1 1/2" sashing and set the blocks on point.

Here is a picture of the chenille and the quilting I did. Oh ya...I didn't put any batting in this quilt. It's nice and soft and cuddly for reading a book in the afternoon. Aren't charm packs fun...?

Back to my sewing room, gotta finish the 4 patches.

New Comments added about block construction.
Here is an example of how the blocks were assembled. Sorry the fabrics are not the same as the finished quilt. I didn't cut the 5" squares, I used them "as is". The sashing is cut 5"x 1 1/2" for a 1" finished sashing. the centre square is cut 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
I did not prewash any of my fabric as I really like the crinkle look when a quilt is washed.
I hope this helps.

  1. Oh that is a beautiful quilt. I just love those colors. Do you wash your charm squares before using?

  2. Ohhh - that is a great setting. I love charm packs, I just discovered them and now have 2! But they are not the same ones. So you cut each 5 inch square in quarters?

I really like the McCalls magazine site. It has loads of patterns.

  3. Sorry to write a note on your comment section, but I cannot seem to send you an e-mail. I like the way you lay out your blog entry. How do you post pictures and make comments besides each one? I tried doing it but somehow the system will not let me. BTW, I'm Canadian also from Montreal. I married an American ;o). Thanks

  5. Thanks for the added instructions. It is so hard to tell how big things really are in photos. I really like that setting and it suits those fabrics. I have a fat quarter package of those Moda fabrics.

  10. Let's hear it for the gals that don't pre-wash *s* I do love just about everything about quilting, but there is a special joy pulling that quilt from the dryer all crinkly and warm. Love your project.
