Roll Roll Cotton Boll

I spent all day Sunday sewing like crazy. I can't believe I actually finished 12 blocks of the mystery quilt. That's plenty of blocks for me, I don't need to make anymore of those tiny HST's (1 1/2" finished). These blocks will be enough to make a lap quilt and I'm very happy with that. I need to decide on the alternate blocks, I don't do well sewing on paper and decided I'll substitute something else, just don't know what that will be right now
This was a fun mystery, I had no idea what the block would look like. I was hesitant about the red all along and wasn't sure how it would work in the block. It's really grown on me and now I love it! I look forward to seeing a few others with blocks completed.

Happy Quilting.

  3. Beautiful block and beautiful color combination - I like the scrappy look. There are sure a lot of pieces in those blocks and not sure I want to tackle 1" HSTs! Brave of you to go for it!

  10. Very pretty - I love the colors. I don't know how anyone could do as many blocks as are suggested. I'm not doing the mystery but have many friends that are.

  12. I Love this setting. The Triangles will form a frame around the next block as wel. A centered design like a star on a background will be a good alternative block.

  14. Hi! I think your blocks look great! For alternate block, you could find a large print motif on background, maybe poinsettias?, for Christmas?
also those who didn't want to make the little HSTs, what about just a border around the block, maybe a small print that would give the same amount of colour as the HSTs?
I was overwhelmed with the numbers too, but maybe I'll put this quilt pattern on my wish list for the future!
    Take care, Leslie

  15. I like your idea of setting them differently, although I was intriqued by that strip pieced block. The fabrics you used came out great! I have never done a mystery quilt. Bonnie does some great things with scraps!

  16. Your gorgeous blocks inspired me to trudge on. I stalled on that hst step and was wondering what I would do with all these other pieces. I like your lap quilt idea! I did the string blocks sans paper.

  27. I make string blocks without a paper backing. Just sew them together and trim them up. It is not hard to do but something else to piece them together with would be great too! I , myself, knew I shouldn't even start this mystery because I still do not have the double delight one put together.
