Weekend Get Away
DH and I took off on a get away weekend to wine and fruit country in BC's Okanagan. It's about a 5 hour drive East from where we live. We stopped at a few wineries along the way, there's something like 80 or more wineries in the Okanagan. Some are very small and some have large vineyards, tasting rooms and even a few with accommodation and restaurant. This picture was taken from the Burrowing Owl in Oliver, BC, they have accommodations and a restaurant with a view, we took the self guided tour as they don't have guides available on weekdays...we got there on a Friday. They were so busy we couldn't even get reservations in the restaurant.
We stayed in a Santa Fe style B&B in Oliver, our hosts were very friendly and breakfast was wonderful, homemade bread, jam, cherry juice and lots of fresh fruit. Here's the patio we had breakfast each morning. The fruits that are currently in season are cherries, apricots and raspberries. In the next few weeks the peaches will be ripe. The B&B hosts even gave us a thank you gift for staying with them. Homemade canned peaches...yummy...
This quilt has been one of my favourite since I made it a few years ago. I learned to appliqué on this quilt, it was supposed to be a beginner appliqué quilt but I didn't think so at the time, I still don't think so. There are so many tiny leaves and vines. It hangs over my computer desk (sorry about the monitor at the bottom of the picture). I'm very proud of this quilt and I always enjoy looking at it with the reds and yellows.
Lucky you, sounds like a wonderful weekend, and the B&B breakfast patio looks wonderful. What a lovely setting for the start of the day.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is absoloutely beautiful, as usual. I think we need to dub you qeuen of applique. I certainly wouldn't have tackled it as my first try at applique.
I agree with you, the applique does NOT look beginner. Though I also have to say it does not appear to be made by a beginner either. It is beautiful. I would like to look at it every day too!!
ReplyDeleteWendy, welcome home. It's nice to hear that you and your DH had a good time. What a beautiful setting!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is stunning - definitely not one I would call a beginner project. Wow! What's your preferred method to applique?
You must had a beautifull trip. and the wether.... it has been a while since I saw the sun.
ReplyDeleteAnd you quilt...beautiful.You must be proud of it.
What a wonderful weekend. Isn't spending time with you DH, just the best thing? Your quilt is adorable. Great job on it.
ReplyDeleteOh lucky lucky you! Looks like you had a great getaway. Did you buy much wine to bring home?
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt - very pretty.
Sounds like it was a wonderfully, relaxing get away. Thanks for sharing your photos. I've never been to BC and would never have thought there were areas as arid as it seems in one of your photos.
ReplyDeleteYour applique quilt is beautiful...and it looks as if an experienced appliquer made it.
The B&B looks lovely and how sweet of them to give the guests a gift!!! LOVE the quilt, it is gorgeous, i dont blame u for staring at it everyday!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful place for a get-away! Sounds like a heavenly place. :) Your quilt is beautiful, and I can't believe that this is the first applique that you had done, in a beginner's class, no less!! :D Excellent job!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, what a wonderful get away! So, did you buy lots of bottle of wines? When do you want me over? lol Your quilt is beautiful. Yea, I agree with you, not a beginner's project. You still did an amazing job on it. It's gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful get away. B&B's are the way to go - tasty foods, good company and tips to locals secrets *s*
ReplyDeleteYour applique piece is great - no wonder it's a favorite.
I love the applique on that quilt, those designs are so sweet and lovely. How nice to look up from the computer and see that. Sounds like you had a great weekend too.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely weekend. I just recently went to a wedding at the Summerhill Winery in Kelowna - very pretty place for a wedding. And lots of great wine to drink :))
ReplyDeleteYour applique is amazing! I have tried needleturn applique and wasn't very good at it, but did enjoy the process. I just discovered machine applique and think I am hooked. I just love your quilt, and think it looks way beyond a beginner level!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a lovely vacation. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Love your applique quilt as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fabulous B & B. Makes me want to step right into the picture.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the monitor is there, because it gives me a size perspective. If that were a full-size quilt, the pieces would be larger, and it might be a beginner project, but at that size, I think at least intermediate. It's a great looking quilt! If you did that and still love applique, you came out ahead. =)
My CQ blog has something you might want to see. =)
Oh wow, the land of my birth! Thanks for sharing pictures and prose. My grandma, aunts, and uncles live in Oliver. It's nice to see a place I know and feel at home.
