Care and Feeding
Hanging baskets are beautiful this time of year. These are hanging on my front porch. They take much care and feeding to keep them looking so lovely. I water them everyday with 15-30-15 fertilizer and they bloom all summer. I've learned to not let the baskets dry out because the tender plants don't recover well after that. I'm showing these because I just love them.
The Shoofly Potpie doll quilt from Kim Diehl's book (Simple Traditions) is all done, well the top is complete at any rate. It looks especially nice draped over my DH antique radio from the 1920's(I think). When you turn it on, the radio lights up (dial is hiding under the lovely quilt) and a really nice humming comes out of it. DH might fix it up "one day", the original tubes are still in the back. Could you imagine the excitement for a family to be sitting around one of these and listening to the evenings programs. This radio is fairly fancy so was probably a big purchase for that time period. My how things have changed.
Thanks for visiting!

That is absolutely adorable! I love it! Is it for MOI?
Well, it doesn't hurt to ask! LOL
The quilt looks beautiful on the old radio. I notice a nice pot sitting there too. Do you know who the potter is that did it?
Your hanging baskets are incredible! Mine look pretty good, but not THAT good! Thanks for sharing how you care for them.
Your quilt is adorable, and I think you must finish it and hang it over that lovely radio for all time! It looks like it was made precisely for the radio.
My husband and I used to listen to old radio shows every Sunday night - it was special programming put on by our local radio station. I was sad when it came to an end - I can see how people got hooked listening to their favorite radio programs each evening! In many ways, it's much better than TV!
Beautiful - the plants and the little quilt. I just can't keep plants like that - I start out great and then forget to tend them. All plants that come here must be very hearty *s*
I failed to comment on your lovely baskets - they are gorgeous. I have a big brown thumb so I could never have something like that. Besides living on the Surface of the Sun doesn't help.
The radio is a beautiful piece.
The flowers are so beautiful! It looks like a perfect day, too. The little doll quilt is cute as can be. You photographed it in the perfect spot.
I love the plaids in your new quilt!
Love your quilt and your hanging baskets. Two lovely photos.
Love that little quilt and the hanging basket is gorgeous!
Awesome Porch.... love the quilt...
Oh my! Your hanging baskets are beautiful. Wish mine looked half that good.
Your set up for the little quilt looks like professional photography. Placing it on that beautiful radio...just looks like that is where it belongs.
The shoofly quilt has turned out beautifully and looks better than the picture in the book! The radio is a wonderful piece.
Love your hanging basket! I think British Columbia must have the perfect weather for flowers. When we visited there a few years ago, I was amazed at the size and beauty of the ones I saw! Also that Kim Diehl dolly quilt is adorable--gonna pull out that book today. Thanks!
Your hanging baskets are gorgeous!! Definately a green thumb there. Your Shoofly Potpie mini is beautiful!!
That little quilt is adorable!! Don't you just love the Kim Diehl books??? I would love to make one of every quilt in her books. :D Thanks for sharing how you take care of your hanging baskets...they are so beautiful! I will have to pull out the fertilizer. :>
The Shoofly quilt is so GORGEOUS! Draped over the old radio it looks like a photo out of a very posh house design magazine :)
Hello,

Kind Regard,
Sonnja
Your quilt is really quilt. Love the flowers. My mother has several and also waters them daily. Someone needs to invent something to help self water!

Love your baskets! Thanks for the tip on watering. That explains everything. Not that I have time these days but nonetheless. I read you about radios. Funny how today we would never think of sitting around a radio to listen to it. Many of nights were spent by families listening to programs. I'm glad you know about tubes. I remember my father going to the pharmacy to test the tubes on our tv, a b&w. Love the quilt! Looks good where it is. Thanks for sharing!
I love the little quilt and it DOES look really nice hanging over the vintage radio. Your hanging baskets look fantastic. I just can't keep any hanging flowers alive. Perhaps your tip about not letting them dry out is why mine never lasted. VBG
What gorgeous hanging baskets! Your hard work and effort definitely paid off there.
Your little quilt is beautiful - it's always such a pleasure visiting your Blog.
Your hanging baskets are gorgious! You really have 'green fingers'!
My cousins in chilliwack bc and Burlington WA also have these beautifull hanging baskets! I think the weather over here in Holland is to cold and windy......(or my fingers aren't green enough..).
I love your quilt and the old radio!
A beautifull little quilt. Just perfect on the old radio.
Wow... look at those hanging baskets, beautiful!!
The quilt looks wonderful draped over the radio. I keep seeing everyone's doll quilts and they're so cute I think about making some too - until I look at all the projects I have waiting for quilting.
What a delight ... a porch with gorgeous hanging baskets! Thanks for the tip on watering. Your doll quilt is perfect with the radio.
