Socks and Stitching

You know that "lone" sock that you throw out because you no longer have a pair, well....now there is a use for them. I recently discovered the world of "stupid sock creatures". I made these funny looking guys from socks. I now have a new appreciation for socks that can be recycled into something cute and funny. I had such a ball making these, cutting and sewing bits of socks. Some of the other girls are "experienced" and made some pretty amazing creatures and much more advanced then my simple guys. My daughters will get a hoot our of these.
I've also done a little stitching over the last few weeks, meet Lilly she's been out in the garden picking flowers. It's too early for any flowers in my garden, so it was nice to spend time with needle and thread. I'm not sure yet if she'll be a small wallhanging or maybe she'll be a pillow.

I'm off to my retreat in a couple of days, I hope to have a quilt finished by the time I get home on Sunday. Keep your fingers crossed I'll get some sewing done. The place I'm going has hot springs so I'll be soaking in that warm water for at least part of the time.

    So that's what you do with a lonely sock. I just threw out an odd giraffe sock! I'm very ready for Spring flowers. Lovely garden lady.

    What a terrific idea for those lone socks! they are adorable. Lily is beautiful! I just love retreats and ten to be very productive. I hope you are too and get to enjoy the hot springs as well!

    I got fed up and threw a whole bunch of odd socks out the other day, but now I shall have to do something next time with them. Perhaps a sock monster for DH as he is the worst culprit!!

    My grandson and I spent a fun weekend creating these sock monsters. In our case, we searched the sale racks for $1 socks and found plenty of fun patterns. I couldn't believe this 12-yr-old boy would spend hours and hours stitching away. We made half a dozen different creatures.

    your sock creatures are GREAT! I've been meaning to do that too, but never got around to much more than cutting a couple of socks apart. did you do them by hand or on your machine? did you use regular thread or thin yarn?

    I bought the Sock Creature book last year. I have yet to make one. I suppose when my grandson is born and gets a little older I'll be ready to make one. Your creatures are so adorable. Lilly is so cute.

    I bought some stuff the other day at Maureen's shop to iron on the back of the fabric for a stitchery - so I am getting closer!!

    Those sock creatures are a hoot - fun to let go and be wacky. Your stitching on Lilly is beautiful - great job. Hope your trip to retreat was fun, relaxing and productive - whoa that's a lot to ask of a retreat, LOL.
