Cats and Quilts

I've had a big distraction in my life the last few weeks. This is Lula, she is almost 3 years old. I've really missed not having a cat around the house and decided it was time to go looking. Lula has spent most of her life hiding, she was in a home with a busy family and another cat which didn't like her. She pretty much spent most of the time hiding from the noise and commotion around her. They returned her to the shelter because she hid all the time. At the shelter she loved to be scratched as long as she was in her safe spot. We have a very quiet house and I thought she would do well. As soon as I brought her home she did find a new hiding spot behind my quilt rack. I felt sorry for her sleeping on the hardwood floor, so I folded up a quilt and put it down for her. While we were not home she managed to wiggle her way into the folds of the quilt, this is how we found her....she is so cute.
It didn't take her long to love all the attention and tummy rubs. She now will come out of her hiding spot when I call her, big improvement for only a couple of days. Each day she is spending more and more time out of her safe spot. I have to try and get a picture of her when she lays on her back with paws stretched out waiting for a tummy scratch....it's just the cutest thing.

Something new, I found while out in the antique stores. This rack is not antique but it's been given a rustic finish to look antique. The tag said it was a linen rack, I think it works great for my little quilts.

Not much happening in the sewing room. It's slow progress with a top I'm quilting. I really wanted to spend my time with Lula to get her comfortable with her new surrounding. So more quilt and cat pictures in futures posts.

  3. I really enjoyed hearing about Lulu and seeing a picture of her snuggled safely in your lovely quilt. I hope you keep us posted on Lulu, and share more photos of her with your quilts. In case you don't know it, I love cats & quilts.

I had also adopted a cat (Cindy) who hid, but we eventually got her to come out. She was the most affectionate cat and very loyal. Miss her terribly (no longer with us).

  4. Oh Wendy, Lula is adorable. I knew when the time was right you would probably get another kitty. Once you have one, it gets lonely when you don't. You are such a loving person and I am so glad she is with you.

I like your new rack. Some day I will have to find one for my quilts too.

  14. Congratulations on your new little girl...she's gorgeous!
We tried to add an additional kitty when our two were around 5 years old. We had the same problems you describe the other family having with Lula with the addition of our cats stalking the poor thing! We found her a home as an only cat & she is now loved as your Lula is.

  23. Oh what a sweet kitty! Glad that you rescued her from the shelter. It sounds like it's not taking her long at all to get used to her new home. I have one cat that does better when its just her and me at home and everybody else is at school or work. The energy level is just too much for her.

  24. Lula is so sweet and it's so nice to hear she's getting so comfortable with you so quickly. I miss having a cat too. I saw some fluffy grey kittens in the paper for $10. Wonder if I can weasle one out of DH and son. I already have a name for him (I want a male) - Stash.

  28. Oh how I wish I could have a Lula! I'm so glad your heart was ready and open for another kitty. She is precious. I was just telling hubby about you today and the fact you were going to look the other day for a new cat. We were in a Petco and they have two up for adoption that I'd have loved to take home. (DH and his allergies!!) Anyway, also must comment on a great rack! That's a keeper!

  30. Oh Wendy, she's just adorable and she will get used to you and the fact that there isn't going to be a big mean cat rushing out to "get" her. Hopefully in less than a month she'll be using the run of the house!

Now I LOVE that rack! I saved a picture and I think I'll see if I can find someone to make me one near me..or maybe Sharon's hubby who loves making things for quilts. Of course the quilts are spectacular too!

  32. Looks like you rescued a real cute kitty, Wendy. It took both Mocha and Ginger a while to settle in after their "rescues". It was especially true when we brought Mocha inside after someone abandoned her; Ginger wasn't too happy to be dethroned, but they get along OK now. It does take time and patience though. You're working on some of the same embroidery projects as I am...hope yours are going faster!

  35. I have two solid white cats in my house that look almost identical. Most people think I only have one. Felicia is very social and all over anyone that sets foot in the house. Topsy stays hidden all day, and will only come out of hiding when its just me and my husband at home and then she is right at my feet, or if I lie down, she is right there on the bed with me. Otherwise, she lives under the bed. I love your "quilt" rack, what a neat way to display your little quilts - which I might add are very nice.

  36. Welcome Lula! You're in great company, as I'm sure you've figured that out by now! ;~) Lovely little display you have going on Wendy! Just love your work. Thank you for sharing Lula's story! Cheers!

  37. Wendy your new sweetie is just so cute. Lula has found a wonderful home where she is bound to be the center of attention and loved and who doesn't love a tummy scratch, lol. Your adorable quilts look wonderful on your new find - what a great way to use one of those.

    Hugs - Karen
