Quilting or NOT

Jeez....3 tests in 3 weeks....how do these instructors expect me to cram that much information in my little brain and not have some information start falling out...LOL I know the light at the end of the tunnel will show up soon.

My sewing room has been missing me and feeling ignored. I still have to finish my little sewing case and Polka Dot Girls, the next block is almost done. I've started a miniature tumbler quilt and my square in a square blocks are wondering when I'll start playing with them again.....soon...soon I'll be back to sewing.

I found this book at an antique sale last weekend, it was published in 1929. In case you needed instructions on how to serve your family this is a good book...LOL Imagine a time when women spent all day planning meals and learning to set the table just right, the water glass is placed 1" above the fork....who cares. Can you imagine ovens didn't always have temperature indicators, this book talks about testing the oven temperature using the paper method, seems risky to me. Who knows I might find a really good recipe in here.
This jug was also something I bought. Most of this "style of jugs" were used to hold Whiskey but this one has written Botanical Works on the front and no mention of Whiskey. I was curious to find out what this jug held, my first thought is maybe liquid fertilizer for plants. My FIL tells me they didn't have liquid fertilizer in 1938. I found the company that made the jug and it was operational until the mid 70's under the name of Govencroft. Maybe a trip to Glasgow would be helpful....LOL
Jenny is enjoying a bit of sunshine at the back door. It's so cute how she brings her back legs up over her head just like doing pilates.

I think Jenny looks like se doing the pike position in diving. Very cute.
I think I will skip measuring were to put the glass on the table and every one can be happy that I remember to give them a drink.

I have a cookbook that belonged to my mom that was published in the '30s. I love reading the recipes - 'fat' figured big in many of the ingredient lists. I have used some of the baking recipes - quite fun, but the meals are more than a little awkward to me *s*

I'm sure glad you bought that book! It's important to know these things. You wouldn't want me to get my nose all bent out of shape when I come and visit you now will ya! LOL Don't forget the proper wine glass. LOL I love old books. I did have one on the birds and the bees. It was so funny to read so Freudian. Hum.... I wonder what I did with it! Hang in there with school. The light in the tunnel isn't far! It's hard balance pleasure/quilting with school. I know I always feel as thought I should be studying as opposed to quilting. So nothing gets done sometimes. Keep well!

Old books are so interesting. I love the illustrations and graphics in them. They really give a sense of the time they were writen. Sometimes it seems to me like I spend all day planning meals even in this day and age, LOL!

Each time I read your blog, I realize how much we have in common. I love the antique book and the jug is really cool too. Your Jenny looks just like my Molly. She loves to curl up like that too.
So much fun getting to know you.
Hugs,
Karen

Love your old books!

I remember home economics from high school. Half of the year was cooking and half of the year was sewing. We had to learn the proper table setting and we were TESTED on it. Do I remember the proper table setting....probably not! Do I set my table....NO WAY! Plates are placed by the stove where the food remains in pots. Each family member is expected to pick up their plate, serve themselves, and then be seated. I do put things on the table in bowls on holidays and when we have company. Otherwise, it's casual dining at my house.

Also just how much information can a person really retain at these speeds? I wonder in a year how much of this will I remember if I haven't used it? LOL... oh well as they say its their ball game and if we want to play we have to follow their rules ROFL... so cram that info in that brain girly!LOL

My great aunt had a book on how to entertain from the 50s that was like that. AMAZING how much pressure there was on a wife to keep the children in line, keep the house perfect, oh and to greet your husband at the door looking beautiful because HE'S had a hard day at work.

Jenny is SO cute!! Amazing what a spot of sunshine can do for the soul.

WOW - that Jenny is flexible. I can hardly bend over and touch my toes, LOL. Love your antique finds - and now I can imagine measuring out my table setting. Hubs is lucky if there is a napkin and fork on the table, LOL. Love the jug also.

Hugs- Karen

That is quite the position the cat is in there -LOL

Good luck with all your exams!! Hopefully you can get back to quilting very soon.

I had a book a number of years ago from the early 1900's "The Care and Feeding of Children" It was a very interesting book to read. We are very lucky that times have changed -LOL!!!

My hubby picked up a similar book at a tag sale for me. He really thought it would help...HA! Only if he wants me to regress about 80 or so years. Jenny looks mighty comfy and very flexible as a cat should be.
