First off I've had a request to get those cookies off my blog....yes Sharon they were as yummy as they look and all of them disappeared in about 2 1/2 days. Well here it it my square in a square quilt. I didn't use the blue I had from my stash, I think this one is a really good choice. I'm so happy with how this quilt turned out. The pattern is from BH&G American Patchwork and Quilting April 2008 issue.
In my neigbour the home owners open their doors for one day at the end of May for people like me to to go looking and tromping through their heritage houses. The heritage preservation society organizes this event with about a dozen homes open for touring each year. I tell ya these homes are gorgeous and people go to a lot of work to bring back the original beauty of the houses. Some had been stuccoed over the years, all kinds of weird things done like orange shag rugs and the owners have painstakingly restored them. These homes are 100 years or older and to have the opportunity to see how beautiful they are is incredible. There are volunteers at each house keeping the foot traffic moving through. We take our shoes off and carry them while walking through the houses, this was the first year I've been home to take the tour. I had a great time with my daughter and her girlfriend looking through each home. The tour also includes a quick tea and lunch and then we were out walking again. We started at 10am and didn't get through all the homes until 4pm. By the time I got home all I could think about was.... man do I ever need to clean my house....LOL
I was looking at all the pictures I took and there wasn't a single picture of the outside of any of the houses. All my pictures were of stain glass windows, antique light fixtures, fireplaces and gardens. I took these type of picture to give me ideas for my home. So I will leave you with a picture of my house, as you can see the garden needs some trimming.....a lot...LOL

Thank goodness there gone!!!! LOL
Love your quilt you finished. That blue is great. And your house is wayyy cool. I love it.
Those cookies were very tempting but I liked that they were not available. LOL
Love your quilt, Wendy - it's wonderful.
What a delightful and inviting home you have - thank you for sharing!
Your house and your quilt are lovely!!
Your house is fabulous, I love the contrast of the steps and the railings against the blue...gorgeous! I've been looking at that quilt pattern too, seeing yours I want to get started!
Sounds like a wonderful to tour - I hope more places get the same idea. There are a few homes in the town my grandma lived in that I would just LOVE to get into *s*
Your quilt is wonderful and oh I love your house.
Wendy,
Your quilt turned out so beautiful. I am so glad you found the right blue, it's just perfect. The blocks just pop out of the background fabric just as they should.
I love your house. It's the style I always dreamed of. The paint color on the steps is a great contrast. I have been thinking for years to paint my front door a deep red and am a bit nervous about doing it. You home is a great inspiration for me to think about really getting down to doing that this summer.
Thanks so much for sharing.
Hugs,
Karen
Okay, I'm breaking the no computer rules, (I was looking up something) and I had to post about that house and the QUILT!! Love that you are the first to finish one and it looks fabulous, Wendy!!!
I'm so glad that you used a background with a slight directional pattern...aka the lines of tiny circles. I was worried about mine and having the patterns go different ways when cutting the triangles, but now I see that it looks fantastic and gives it a nice lovely look! LOVE the blue color and all your blocks!
PS: can I adopt your house? I'm in love!
Love your quilt! The cookies are even more delicious looking when you click on the photo to enlarge them, lol, giant yummy cookies. Perfect! Your house looks very sweet and well kept, you silly girl, I bet the inside is just as tidy as the outside. I love to go on the home tours. We have those here in October. Also garden tours in the summer. Now, back to those cookies...
LOVE LOVE LOVE that quilt - the blue is perfect also. I just love touring homes and seeing what other people do, whether there new or old I'm a bit of a house stalker, LOL. Sounds like a great day to me. I think your house is adorable and I think your porch is hollering for me to visit and sit out there with a BIG OLD PLATE of those cookies, LOL. Sharon can come if she wants.
Hugs - Karen
Love you square in a square quilt. I really need to get back to mine now that I have enough fabric to finish it off.
The quilt is gorgeous, I love that blue print that you used. The pink version of the same print is also a favourite of mine. And the quilt matches your house!
The blue was a good choice for your quilt.
Your house looks wonderful! And so do those cookies. I tried licking the computer monitor to get a taste....but no luck.
I love your house, it's the kind of house I've always wanted...way too many ranch style houses out here where I live.
That blue is perfect...I LOVE the way it turned out!!!
Your quilt is one of the looks that I love the most. I love the colors, and the coziness of it. The same goes for your house. My house was blue, and I liked that best. I love the contrast of your steps. It looks perfect.
April 2008? Man, you're a speed demon -- and it's beautiful too! Love your adorable house!
I love your home!!!! Great color!!! The square ina square would make a perfect tablecloth. I love your adaptation. I think it's better than the book's.
Beeeeeuuutifullll quilt! Excellent choice of background!
I remember that quilt from the magazine. The zig zag setting is wonderful, and your choice of blue for the background is so unexpected and perfect.
Your house is just a dream!
I love your house and what a beautiful quilt

Gorgeous quilt! I just love it! I would love to participate in such a tour! I love older homes. Was your home included in the tour? When are you making your next batch of cookies, so that I can plan ahead? ;o) Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
I like the blue in your quilt, it is just lovely. You do have a great house, is it old?
Your rendition of that quilt turned out great. Was it fun to make? And oh your house is too cute!
I love old house tours! Your house reminds me of the house my grandparents owned in Chicago before they moved to the suburbs. I wonder what it looks like now. How old is your house?
Oh Wendy your house is adorable! I love the blue and the mauve stairs. Cute trims! I think it was made for me! Your Sq n Sq turned out great!
