Letting Go....

My youngest DD moved into her own place this last week. I've been helping her collect up all the necessary household items she might need to get started. We've been packing, shopping and spending some nice quality time together. I won't see her much as she has moved a ferry ride away....It will be so hard not to see her so much. I will need to plan ahead to spend time with her. She certainly seems very happy in her new surroundings, so I feel I need to be happy for her.

Yesterday I spend the day at her new place helping her settle in. This trip was also to bring over my old sewing machine to her as she likes to alter and make her own clothes. We went out for a very nice lunch and walk by the sea shore. On the way back she mentioned a quilt shop in the area and we could stop there. I knew she was thinking of me. When we went in the shop my daughter introduced me to the shop owner....hmmmm she's been here before, well that's not so unusual my DD likes to sew. Then.....the shop owner asked my daughter if she was still interested in a beginner class. Well you can imagine my surprise....what.... she wants to start quilting....could this be real.... My daughter has always been a sewer but never interested in quilting. Oh how all the wheels started turning. I would have to get her the equipment, rotary cutter, ruler and mat. The class isn't until early Jan so that gives me time to get all the supplies she'll need. This is so exciting my DD is interested in quilting....yippee hurray....I'm speechless, she really never showed interest at home, my how anything can change when on their own. I'm very happy and excited about the days when the two of us will have even more in common....quilting.

We had a such a nice visit. Here is a zip pouch I made for her to hold her threads and needles. She loves guitars and music so I stitched a design she would love and could use for a long time.

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I can understand your elation - I couldn't believe it when my DD showed an interest in sewing and quilting. She was a Respiratory Therapist before kids and she used to make her own scrub tops (didn't want to look like everyone else - LOL). She started quilting after she got married.

This DD took Shop in high school - she can weld with the best of them. LOL

Better later than never???

I think that is wonderful. I also think that you will have fun shopping for her Christmas gifts this year.

My Mum has quilted since I was 15, when I was home I found it a bit intimidating. I only started quilting after I was 30. It is nice to share the same hobby.

Oh how exciting! Yup, once they are away from mom they decide mom isn't so strange! Or that her hobbies are strange!

That's awesome your daughter wants to learn to quilt. I keep asking mine over and over again, but she's totally not interested. She wants me to make her a quilt for her Halloween birthday, but that's as far as her interest in quilting goes! Cute zipper bag there!

How fun! Our older daughter has started quilting and it is really fun when she calls to ask for advice. Last spring I sent her a box of fabric strips and she put them into a fun little scrap quilt and then added a border and some applique! Lovely.

Now that is some wonderful news, a special hobby to share with your special girl. It's so hard when they grow up and move on, but not you will have a common thread (no pun intended, well maybe a little bit) to enjoy together.
That little sewing bag is adorable and so it your other bag in the post before this. Tooooo cute sister.

I can imagine how happy you must be. My mom loves when I sew with her. I have sons so I wouldn't truly understand the excitement. LOL!! But all mothers of daughters get very excited. So enjoy it. And I love your bag you made for Fall. Very cute.

How lovely that your daughter is interested in learning quilting. It just shows how much she values the things that she associates with home. What fun it will be to help her get started, and she will have a good reason to keep in touch!

WOW!!! That is every quilting mother's dream come true. I would love it if my daughter was interested in quilting and sewing. At least she is starting to do a few other crafty things with me. Congratulations, you are truly blessed!!!

I loved your blog!
Your works are beautiful!

You must be so happy! And now you have a reason to spend even more time in quilt shops (to get her presents). With me, the opposite happened: I introduced my mother to quilting (quilting was not that popular in France then) and now she spends even more time than I do at it and we always have something to talk about. Take care.

I love the little bag you made for her. Maybe lay low for a week or two, not to overwhelm her with enthusiasm? How nice that she's decided this is something she wants to do!

That's a lovely story. I hope you don't mind but I mentioned you on my blog, as you inspired me to make a quilt this weekend. Thank you.

That is so nice that your daughter is interested in quilting. I think my daughter is starting to show a bit of interest. She asked last summer if I had an extra sewing machine. Although I don't think it was for quilting - but it's a start - I need someone to inherit all this fabric - LOL

I've recently had to let go as well, unfortunately my daughter and I so far haven't found much in common other than being related to the same people. Your post can make me dream though!

BTW, just found your blog, love your projects. I'll be back. :)
