Spinning Pinwheel Quilt

I had trouble getting the whole quilt in the picture, but you get the idea. The pieced border has now been added to my Spinning Pinwheel quilt. I had so much fun doing this pattern, I really enjoyed every step. So one quilt done, now I still have the pieced border to do on the second Spinning Pinwheel quilt.
Don't know if you can see the machine applique in this picture, a very small zigzag along the edge. (I'm really going to have to learn to use my camera better). Well, I've decided to machine applique my DWR blocks, mainly because I wasn't enjoying doing these by hand and I just want to get it done. There are 42 blocks plus the border blocks to complete the rings. It just seemed like this was taking too long and I was feeling like soon it'll be back in the UFO pile. I didn't want that to happen.

Nicole is showing lessons on machine applique, mine is a little different in that I'm not using fusible and the edges are turned under. There are so many method's of applique, my favourite is freezer paper and starch. In another post I will show you how I do that.

Oh look your spinning pinwheel stars look beautiful. I must finish mine - you're almost done with two and I'm still "spinning my wheels" with that project. Sorry - terrible pun. LOL

I can hardly see your tiny zigzag on your wedding ring blocks - that's such a beautiful quilt. I can't wait to see it completed. Tell me again what pattern you used - it's a someday project. LOL

I think I've shared that my preferred applique method is freezer paper and starch. Sure works for me.

Great quilts - love 'em both. Lately I have turned to needle turn as my preferred applique method - but freezer paper and starch is next on my list *s*

Wendy, your spinning pinwheels quilt top is fantastic! What a great way to use up your 30's fabrics! Was the pattern in a book, or did you come up with it on your own? The DWR is lovely as well, and I recognize a lot of the fabrics as some I still have in my stash!!

I love the colours in the spinning pinwheels quilt, and the border is just right for it. Great job!

Both quilts are fabulous, Wendy, but my favorite is the spinning pinwheel!

You did fine with your camera. I clicked on the picture...it enlarged...and I can barely see the zigzag...not because of the photography, but because you did such a good job of hiding it!

I think doing the appliqué by machine looks great, you can only just see the stitches. It sure is a lot faster than doing it by hand :)

I love both these quilts and think the machine appliqué is a fantastic idea.
Anything that looks good and avoids another ufo has got to be a good idea.

I shall return to see more of your beautiful work.
I really thought Nicole's tutorial on machine applique was great. I am totally intrigued with the freezer paper and starch method - can't wait to see it!
