Star Bright Quilt Finish

It's not a great picture but better than nothing, gotta take the photo when there are some friends are around to hold the quilt for me, can't do this at home, no space. So here it is....ta da, the ladies at my stitching group meeting were nice to hold the quilt while I take the picture. The binding not finished in this picture but you can't tell....at least I don't think you can.
Here's a close up of the machine quilting...okay the binding is now completed. I get very exciting when I can throw the quilt in the washing machine and get the wrinkled antiquey look of the quilt. This quilt will be on my bed so it'll be washed a lot especially since the cat will be sleeping on it too. I have a question for you guys, do you wash your quilts when it's going to hang on the wall??? Bed size quilts I always wash right away but what about table runners and wall quilts, do you always wash these, if not, why? I like the washed look, so in the machine they go.
A little peek of the back, I found this toile on sale long time ago and this was just the right quilt to pull it out.

Last year at this time I had a desire to learn how to knit socks after not touching a knitting needle for 25 year, don't know why I wanted to start again with socks, just one of those things. I found the knit shop close to my house was offering sock knitting class the following week, great timing, sign me up. It happened again....this year I've had the desire to learn how to crochet, again it's been 25 years and I only did one crocheted project in my life. So down to the knit shop again and guess what??? they have a crochet class that starts next week...it was meant to be.... sign me up. The inspiration came from this, these sweet items are so irresistible....I must give it a try.

Congratulations on your beautiful finísh. I can understand you on sock knitting and crochet. It is hard to resist with all the nice yarn around.
I love the sewing case, all the taupe colours, is it japanese per chance?! Take care.

Have fun at your crochet class . . . my hands turn to all thumbs when it comes to yarn crafts. I sure admire you gals that can make it work.
Your new bed quilt is going to be so cozy warm. Pulling a new quilt fresh from the dryer is always such a delight. I like that crinkly, old look so I wash everything - no matter what the size or purpose.

It is beautiful, congratulations. I prewash my fabrics and batting and when I have finished a quilt I wash it again. I have always wanted to try to skip washing the batting and let it shrink after quilting but... is that what you do to get this look?

It's absolutly gorgeous! I love it! Good choice of backing too! As for the washing question, I don't wash a wallhanging until it needs it! Same with a table runner. Quilts, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Depending if I'm finished with the machine quilting or not. Sometimes I get the quilt to a point where it's safe to bind it and live with it until an inspiration comes up! Have fun with crochet!

Ohhh lovely quilt Wendy. I always wash, doesn't waht size it is or where it's going, it never appears until it's been washed. I love the crinkled look they get after a wash.

Great finish...love your star quilt. I don't wash a wall hanging or table runneruntil it needs it...quilts I wash as soon as I'm done.
Have fun crocheting. Sharon taught me when I was at her house last week and I'm loving it...I'm not doing anything hard, just single crochet and I'm doing an afghan...great fun, and very relaxing.

The Buggy Barn star quilt really turned out fabulous, you must be thrilled with it!! I always wash everything, table runners, wall hangings. The things I want to hang flat I just iron the heck out of them.

I used to crochet - that was the first "crafty" thing I was taught by my grandmother - those basket potholders were so cute, I can see why you would be drawn to them. Have fun at your class!!!

Oh, Wendy, I love your Buggy Barn Star Quilt - it's wonderful! You're going to enjoy sleeping under that beauty. :-)

I haven't crocheted in more years than I care to count. LOL I learned when I lived in Japan in the early 70s and crocheted like a mad woman but only worked with yarn - many afghans were given as gifts. I was never able to crochet with the finer threads. Knitting and I do not get along -
Sigh! LOL Enjoy learning - you'll do great.

I always love the old fashion look of your quilts. I love this star design.

I just love antiques of any kind so I do wash mine afterwards for this look. I think it really makes the quilting show up too.

I don't wash my quilts straight away unless there are pencil marks showing, but I wash them all at some time or other. The star quilt is beautiful!
I hope you enjoy the crochet - it's another way to work with colour, and that's always fun:)

Your quilt is beautiful. I don't usually wash my quilts and never my wall hangings until they need it but i did wash my last one because i'd used so much Elmer's glue and I really like the look of it now so I may change my mind on the washing issue. Wow, that was a long sentence!

I washed a table runner once after I finished quilting it and regretted it. I still use it but I next time I will only wash the blanket quilts not the decorative ones. Just a matter of taste I guess because I do love the wrinkly look to stuggle up in. I totally understand the knitting and crochet calling. I can't set my needles down. I have found a greater love for yarn than I had for fabric. (at least for now hee hee)

I loved it as a top, but more now that I see it finished! Your fabric selection is great. I love the wrinkles too, so I don't prewash my fabrics (don't tell!) and wash everything, including wall hangings, etc!

That is an amazing quilt Wendy!
I don't usually wash batik wallhangings or miniature quilts, but everything else I do wash.

I wash everything as soon as the last stitch in the binding is done. I love the wrinkled - antique look, so I rarely pre-wash my fabrics.
I absolutely love this quilt. What pattern is it?

Good luck on your yarn adventure. I love the sweet things that Caroline comes up with and find her inspiring me to try something new with yarn and needles/hook.

I *always* wash quilts the second the binding is completed. To me, it's not finished until it's washed. I, too, love that old fashioned quilty/puckery look. Wall quilts, table runners, little quilts. I wash them all.

I really like that star quilt! Awesome job!

Love the quilt! I usually don't wash quilts till they need it, unless I want that softer look. Good luck with your crochet projects...I've decided not to even consider knitting or crocheting, as I have way too much fabric to use first!

A gorgeous quilt! My fabrics are prewashed; but not my batting. All my quilts and hangings etc. are always washed right after they are finished. Some are dried in the dryer and others are either line dryed or placed flat on a towel to dry.
