UFO

A UFO closer to becoming a quilt, I showed this a few months back and only the star blocks were complete, now the alternate blocks are done as well...yippee.

All 90 blocks are pieced and ready to become a completed quilt top. This quilt will be a queen size and it's definitely going to be for my bed.

I forget to show this bird pincushion I made my daughter as a Christmas gift.

Happy Quilting.

Garden, bags and UFO

Holy Cow!....it's been over a week since my last post. Where did the week go??? I've been cleaning up the garden, visiting the nursery and contemplating how I'm going to reorganize my sewing room. Since the sewing room is too big of a MESS to conquer in one day, I then decided gardening was much more manageable....I'll just keep procrastinating for a few more days. It's too sunny to be inside anyway....I'll have to get busy in my sewing room on the next raining day. Darlene has done a fantastic job in her room.
I promised my daughter a pretty bag she can take her lunch to work in. Here's what a came up with after looking through many patterns. This one was easy...YES....I like easy. I still need to put the plastic lining inside. She requested the plastic, it's the stuff used for table cloths, I picked the light weight plastic which won't be too stiff inside. I think she'll like it, her birthday is on Monday, I'll give it to her then.
I found this little cutie in my UFO pile. I only needed to add the outer x-stitch border and it was done. I have no idea why I didn't finish it, when I was so close to being done.

Happy Stitching.

Off to Retreat with my Bags.....

Something you don't know about me is I have an obsession with making bags. I LOVE bags of all shapes and sizes. I find them fun and challenging to make, when I'm done I have something that I can use for various outings. I don't go out and purchase bags, only make them.
I don't know why this bag has been a UFO for about a year now, other than I couldn't decide if I wanted to put on fabric handles or the leather handles I've already purchased. Shouldn't be such a hard decision but I couldn't make up my mind, so there it sat. I'm leaving for my 5 day retreat on Sunday so this is the time to stop procrastinating, which BTW is another thing I do often. I seem to wait until the last minute to get things done. I always have lots of time to complete what I've been procrastinating about and get it done well but I put it off as long as possible.
I use this bag the most for going to retreats. The bag has a square bottom and sides that stand up, it will hold most of my project and sometimes I can even fit the rulers in. I call this my Flower Bag and also use this for taking to classes.

This is a Bareroots pattern and I just love it. I can use this when I'm taking my quilts for show and tell at my stitchery group meetings. I use this bag a lot.
I like this bag for taking along small stitchery projects, such as redwork and embroidery of any kind. The bag is made from Charm Squares and it's called 17 Patch Bag. When not holding my stitchery I can also use this as a toiletry bag, it holds my tooth brush etc.
And here is my knitting bag, well it's become my knitting bag since I started knitting last Feb. I had a really big urge to knit socks so I took a class and since Feb I've made 5 pairs and still love it.

So there you have it my collection of bags. I'm sure there are a couple more I've missed but these are the one's I use the most. I hope you enjoy them.

Have a great week, I'll be in wine country on a 5 day retreat.

Time to Ditch It!

Ever since Carole's posting on "The Broom's out of the Closet" and ditching things not used in a while got me thinking about what I should do with my oldest of the old UFO's. My girlfriend who I had lunch with yesterday mentioned to me she wanted to make a quilt for someone but felt she didn't have the time right now. Well this was a perfect opportunity to offer one of my quilt top (see previous post on Oldest UFO) sitting in the closet waiting for someone to finish. So we made a trade, she will make good use of my UFO and in return she will give me a couple of yards of fabric. I really didn't want anything because the quilt top is not worth anything to me sitting in the closet. But she insisted that we should trade. So there you go! One UFO out of the closet going to good use.

I have 2 more lap size flimsy's that will make good community quilts for the LQG so here they are and out of the closet they go.....this is fun....I'm free of these old UFO's.

This Magic Tiles flimsy I made soooo long ago....time to clean out.

I don't know what I was thinking when I made this red and yellow rooster flimsy, other than I really like chickens and I have several in my kitchen.

The friend I had lunch with also was having her Birthday. Here is a little gift I made for her with embroidered leaf on the front. It's using Twelve22 zipper again (love that zipper). The bag is perfect for carrying threads etc to meetings. The size zipper I used is 7".

GIVE AWAY
And to celebrate my cleaning out the closet I would like to give away a Charm Pack, leave me comment by Monday and I will draw a random number and the Charm Pack will be yours. Sorry I don't have a picture but who would turn down free fabric :-)

Happy Quilting.

Oldest UFO and BOM #2

What is my oldest UFO?
Well here it is...the top is so big I couldn't fit the whole thing in the picture. Only half the quilt top is showing. The border is in yellow. Now that I see it in the picture, I'm not sure if I still like the yellow. Oh well....

How old and why did it become a UFO?
This quilt top is from 1997. I remember being very excited about making it. I think the reason for not finishing it was my taste in colour, design etc had changed and it wasn't a priority anymore. I don't know if I have the name correct and I'm too lazy right now to look it up but I believe it's called "Garden Trellis".

When do you plan to finish it?

Originally I was planning to have this quilt to put in a guest room but that room never happened so the quilt never happened either. I have no plans at the moment to finish this quilt but I will hang on to it awhile longer (don't know why???). I have a couple other UFO's which I have not attachment to and plan to give for charity quilts to the local guild.

How many UFOs do you have?
I have six UFO's waiting for quilting which includes the Garden Trellis. Three of them are lap quilt tops which I will give away to charity for someone else at the guild to finish and one is completely appliqued with flowers, cats, birdhouses etc in pastel colours which I did in 2001 (I will definitely keep and quilt one day SOON!) The last one is a basket block quilt which I pieced last year and will machine quilt.

I've finished my Block #2 for the BOM Birds of a Feather. I really like how the dark background is looking with the pinks and reds.

Happy Stitching.
