Country Quilts Book Winner!

Firstly I wanted to say "Thank You" to Cheryl for having this fantastic blog hop, it's been so much fun to be a part of it. And WOW all the wonderful comments I received, I enjoyed reading everyone. I never would have thought I'd get such a huge response to my question. It seems quilters love what they are doing in sew many ways.....too many to count! Now what you have been waiting for, the winner of Cheryl's new book is Gayle.

There are more chances to enter by visiting Cheryl's blog each Sunday. Congratulations Gayle!

***I can't get Picasa to upload pictures, anyone have any suggestions?  Hopefully I'll have it figured out soon I want to post pictures of my Red and White Quilt.

Happy Quilting!

Book Blog Tour and Giveaway

My week has finally arrived.......I'm so thrilled to be invited to take part in Cheryl's blog tour and giveaway of her newest book. I fell in love with her primitive patterns when I visited her "open house" a few years ago. Seeing her wonderful primitive country decorated home was a really treat. Her home felt very welcoming with quilts amongst all the antiques in every room. There is a stream running through her backyard with beautiful landscaping all around, makes you feel relaxed and far away from everything.  I couldn't find any pictures, I must have taken some but no luck finding them.....grrrr.  I love Cheryl's easy going no fuss primitive country style. See more of her books, patterns and gifts on her website Country Quilts.

I've been busy the last few weeks working on a project from her newest book.  It wasn't an easy decision, there are so many in this book that I love. As I was looking through the book I kept coming back to the page with "Night Blooms".....okay it was calling my name with the 9-patches and baskets set off by the black sashing.

The applique pieces are big and easy to turn under the edges. I picked reproduction and homespun fabrics from my stash to make this quilt, it measures 54"x54". The pictures are making this quilt look brighter than it really is, I'll show more of this quilt when it's finished. Be sure to check out other projects in this book on the Martingale blog here.

All the applique pieces are at the "glued" stage, I love Roxanne glue for holding everything in place. I think this will make a good hand project while watching some of my favourite shows this fall. It's starting to get cooler in the morning......fall is coming.

It's a fantastic book and if you'd like to win your own autographed copy of Cheryl's book, simply leave a comment and just for fun tell me your favourite part of being a quilter......friendships, applique, piecing, shopping for fabric, collecting quilts, quilt shows, retreats....you get the idea. Leave a comment on this post only and I'll draw the lucky person out of a hat on Thursday. Check Cheryl's blog each Sunday to see the next stop on her blog tour. Good Luck!

Christmas Through the Year

Table runner by Cotton Way ready for gift giving, finished the binding last night. But before it's given away this table runner will serve as a sample for the quilt shop I work at. The way the pattern is designed the stitchery is part of the back of the runner, I've made it the front instead. I wouldn't put this lovely stitched writing on the back......would you? I'm ready for the Darlene's August Christmas Train coming soon.

Happy Stitching!

Clear Bag

HOT HOT....it's been too hot here....I'm not complaining, we've waited a long time for this warm weather but still it could be a little less hot. With all this heat I'm not feeling too much like being in my sewing room. I did manage to make this vinyl pouch to teach a class last weekend. It's my own pattern (well if you could call it that) I didn't write any instructions. The girls loved making this and it has many uses for carrying all kinds of sewing stuff ie: notions, stitchery or use as a toiletry bag. If you'd like the cutting dimensions I would be happy to send along, just keep in mind there will not be any written instructions.

Edited to add cutting instructions.
Cutting
Cut 4 - 2" x 11 1/2" fabric for top of bag
Cut 4 - 3" x 11 1/2" fabric for bottom of bag
Cut 2 - 7 1/2" x 11 1/2" clear vinyl
Cut 4 - 2" x 11 1/2" interfacing (med weight)
Cut 4 - 3" x 11 1/2" interfacing (med weight)

Keep cool!

Scrappy Plate Quilt Completed

It's a good feeling to have finished this Scrappy Plate quilt from Bunnyhill's free pattern found here. I had so much fun making this quilt, I think this is my favourite quilt I'm made so far (I might have said that before). I used as many polka dot fabrics as I could find and I like the mix of colour. Many of the fabrics are from Kaffe Fassett line which I haven't bought before making this quilt (now I have a nice collection). The plates are hand appliqued and I did the machine quilting.

Get ready for lots of pictures below.

I hope you enjoyed all the pictures.
Happy Quilting.

Christmas Through the Year and SSA #4

This is a quick post to show a couple of things. Firstly, I've made 2 more of the vinyl pouches using the Atkinson Designs pattern, these are the smallest size, the pattern comes with 3 sizes. I'm posting them kinda late for July Christmas Through the Year hosted by Darlene and Cheryl....maybe they will go easy on me since it's summer.

I might as well include the Summer Sew Along blocks, number 4 is finished.

Happy Quilting.
