First Finish

Time to catch up on the first couple weeks of the year. My first finish for 2015, Candy Hearts is a flimsy. I had so much fun making these hearts, it will be ready for Feb, my favourite month.
It's a prefect size for the table.

And then I took a class taught by a good friend, as if I needed to start a new project. Log cabin blocks done in Red and White, haven't decided how big this quilt will be yet.
Still working on Fat Quarter Shop Mystery blocks. This is number 6, I have number 7 cut and ready for piecing. Block 8 will be arriving soon, I don't want to get behind on these.

Happy Quilting!

Sew Along

I had some HST's from a swap a while ago. I came across Pam Buda's sewing along recently and had enough HST's for all the blocks. Mine are 8" finished and Pam's blocks are 6" finished, my quilt will be bigger. Not sure what size yet but I think a nice table topper. I'll be putting this together at my retreat which starts tomorrow. I've still got so much to do before I go.
The cats like to sleep on the bathroom floor because the tiles are heated. It's nice and warm for them. I better get ready. I'll have more to show when I get back.

Happy Mothers Day

What did you do for Mother's Day? I've been spending a little time in my sewing room. I pieced this block together in between going out for brunch and soon we'll be going out for dinner with my daughter.  I love these relaxing days when I can sew without other things on my mind, like what am I going to make for dinner tonight.

Have a great day.

Swoon Progress

Blocks are completed, my living room is barely big enough to lay out on the floor. I'm so happy with how these blocks turned out.

I haven't decided on the final arrangement yet. The Swoon blocks have been fun to make and boy does it use up a lot of fabric.

Happy Quilting!

April Showers

I'm making some progress on the Lori Smith blocks, the first one I made is here. I don't have a definite plan for these yet, maybe put in a quilt....any suggestions?. Now that I'm looking at the picture, the vine block doesn't really go with the basket and bunnies. Swoon quilt is coming along, I hope to make some progress this weekend.
Spring has sprung and we had a gorgeous week of warm sun. The cherry blossoms are blooming, I planted this tree last year so this will be the first time seeing it bloom. With spring comes April showers and it's started raining again, the garden will have to wait a bit....it's too wet outside right now.
I found these flowers popping up in my garden, they needed rescuing so I put them in a pot by the back door. I thing they look so pretty.

Happy Spring!

Happy Easter and Swoon Blocks

I stitched up this bunny in red pants pulling a chick in an egg cart from Red Brolly free patterns. It's prefect for holding Easter candy.

Some progress on the Swoon blocks, I was hoping to have them all done this week but we've had the best spring weather and it was time to get out in the garden. After gardening I'm pretty tired and don't get in my sewing room. Only three more blocks.....I'm really loving how it's turning out.

Have a great Easter weekend.

Scrappy Blocks

Has it been a week already. Work has tired me out and not much sewing going on, I haven't even touched my stitchery....the next couple of days are quiet so I hope I get some energy back. I did do some (very little) sewing before work, got these blocks finished.  It's taken me a long time (months) to finally settle on this layout, I like how it's starting to come together, there are 35 of these blocks. I hope to have a completed top.....soon.....wish me luck.

Happy Quilting and don't forget today is "shop your local quilt store day".

A Little Progress

I know block 4 has already been posted, I have 3 blocks of the Summer Star Sew Along completed. These are so cute and it doesn't take long to make one block, so why don't I have block 4 done yet....I was busy today driving the Triangle Farm Tour. Found some wonderful stuff and enjoyed the garden tour.

I'm making a red and white quilt with the exchange squares from last years swap. I'm making my quilt queen size and needed 9 blocks more than the pattern, for a total of 25 blocks. The quilt will be 91"x91". It's a free pattern called Charming Stars on Moda Bake Shop. All the blocks are complete but I still need to add the sashing and border. A couple of bloggers have already finished this quilt Quilting Daze and Sunshine Yellow.

I don't get many good pictures of Lula, I especially like this one. I caught her resting on the stairs enjoying the sun, she is my little princess.

Happy Quilting.

Dressies Progress

These Scrappy Plates are fun to make and easier than they look. I've finished appliqueing about five Dresden blocks so far. The others are all prepped and ready for stitching while sitting on the back deck. You can find the free pattern from Bunnyhill.

Happy Quilting!

Block Progress and Something New

A few more blocks completed from the book "Some Kind of Wonderful". The pattern is "My Favourite Things" from Anni Downs book. You can see more of my blocks here and here.

I think this is my favourite so far.....who doesn't love a vacation.

Something new I've just started, the dressies pile is growing. I'm making the Bunnyhill free pattern.

Happy Quilting.

Monday, June 27, 2011

The weekend was mostly spent cutting back shrubs and plants away from the house and garage so the painters could start pressure washing today. They are getting ready for painting in the next couple of weeks. I found a little sewing time with these kitties, I was just smitten when a friend emailed me with a picture of the block she did. I'll be putting a inner border and outer border and it will be a little table mat.

I'm enjoying these stitchery blocks (sorry the lighting sucks today), it a free pattern found here. Mine are brown thread with a pink accent. The "S" is so cute with the birdhouse, I have a few birdhouses around my garden.

Happy Quilting and Stitching

Saturday, May 14, 2011

My signature block (forgot to take a picture, I was playing with other colour combinations) is on it's way to Australia to be made into a raffle quilt for Breast Cancer Research. It only takes a few minutes to make one and it's for a good cause, Linda from Quilts In The Barn raised over 10,000 last year. You still have time, the deadline to mail is Monday May 18th.
The borders are coming along nicely, I still need to cut and add more squares.

Something else I've been working on is hexagons for a little purse. These are 3/4" hexagons, boy are they tiny. I have them all connected and ready to start the purse. Another thing I've got to finish are the churn dash blocks for a swap. One more month and I can start making the quilt. Haven't decided what the setting will be yet.....I'm open to ideas, the blocks are 6" finished and done in civil war and shirting fabrics.

Off to see a quilt show today and working the booth.  Happy Quilting!

La Petite Houses

I've been working on a few little blocks, these house blocks are only 4.5" finished. Boy are these fussy little things to put together, I think they'll go into a small quilt. I also made a couple of little baskets, those might be separate small quilt at some point. The house fabrics are from La Petite Ecole, I think it means "The Little School".
Mary sent me a birthday gift and it arrived a bit late even with her sending it two weeks ahead. The post office is very unpredictable. She also included some chocolates with caramel, nuts but I ate those before I got the camera out....teehee.Thanks so much Mary, you are a sweet friend.

I just found out today, there is a pattern coming my way from here.

Happy Quilting.

More Blocks

I've made some progress on a few more blocks this week. Cheri has posted the completed quilt and it's so adorable, I just love it. Something else I've done it a bag class with this lovely teacher, she makes some very unique custom bags. Scroll down on her blog and you'll see the Paris Cross Over bag, that's the one we took in class. I just need to add the handles and I'll have a wonderful new bag.

Progress on Blocks

I wish I had started these blocks sooner when Cheri first started posting them. They are so much fun to make. The quilt is called Soot and Ashes. You can see the completed quilt on Cheri's blog. Five blocks completed and ten more to go, I'm very happy I decided to jump in and start this quilt.
