Book Blog Tour and Giveaway

My week has finally arrived.......I'm so thrilled to be invited to take part in Cheryl's blog tour and giveaway of her newest book. I fell in love with her primitive patterns when I visited her "open house" a few years ago. Seeing her wonderful primitive country decorated home was a really treat. Her home felt very welcoming with quilts amongst all the antiques in every room. There is a stream running through her backyard with beautiful landscaping all around, makes you feel relaxed and far away from everything.  I couldn't find any pictures, I must have taken some but no luck finding them.....grrrr.  I love Cheryl's easy going no fuss primitive country style. See more of her books, patterns and gifts on her website Country Quilts.

I've been busy the last few weeks working on a project from her newest book.  It wasn't an easy decision, there are so many in this book that I love. As I was looking through the book I kept coming back to the page with "Night Blooms".....okay it was calling my name with the 9-patches and baskets set off by the black sashing.

The applique pieces are big and easy to turn under the edges. I picked reproduction and homespun fabrics from my stash to make this quilt, it measures 54"x54". The pictures are making this quilt look brighter than it really is, I'll show more of this quilt when it's finished. Be sure to check out other projects in this book on the Martingale blog here.

All the applique pieces are at the "glued" stage, I love Roxanne glue for holding everything in place. I think this will make a good hand project while watching some of my favourite shows this fall. It's starting to get cooler in the morning......fall is coming.

It's a fantastic book and if you'd like to win your own autographed copy of Cheryl's book, simply leave a comment and just for fun tell me your favourite part of being a quilter......friendships, applique, piecing, shopping for fabric, collecting quilts, quilt shows, retreats....you get the idea. Leave a comment on this post only and I'll draw the lucky person out of a hat on Thursday. Check Cheryl's blog each Sunday to see the next stop on her blog tour. Good Luck!

After giving it a little thought, I think that the best part of quilting for me is taking in museums and exhibits with my blog buddy, Vicki - looking at & talking about the quilts we see, and the ideas that it sparks.
Thank you for your generous offer - this looks to be a book I need in my library!

I couldn't say what I like best about quilting cuz I love it ALL!! Love your blog and thanks for the giveaway!

I think you did well choosing a project from the book. I would love to make a quilt from that pattern.

The best part of quilting for me is the creativity. I have always loved fabric and have made many things over the years. I think quilting gives me the best creative use of fabric. I so enjoy picking the fabrics, cutting them apart, and stitching them back together again. I also like the sharing of the craft with so many others whether it is in a small group of quilting friends, through a guild, or through the quilting blogs.

Beautiful project! I love everything about quilting... choosing fabrics, applique, piecing, stitchery. I could go on and on. It is my passion. Thank you for the generous giveaway!

This is a beautiful project for winter stitching.
it would be hard to pick my favorite part of quilting. At first it was the creative outlet and love of colour, then I really enjoyed the challenges of learning so many new things, but lately my favorite part has been the wonderful friendships I have found through quilting. These quilters have literally kept my life stitched together.

Your quilt is beautiful, Wendy. Great choice of fabrics!

My favorite thing about quilting is the creative outlet it provides for me. I love working with needle and thread but I can't explain how it makes me feel.
:-) Maybe it's the overall feeling of tranquility and bliss.

Thank you for the opportunity to win this fabulous book.

Beautiful work, Wendy! I did a simplified version of the same quilt for my review... such a great project! I miss Cheryl's open houses, they were such a highlight for me! Have fun with your giveaway!

Sorry...I got excited and forgot to tell you my favorite part of quilting. It's the piecing. I love to take bits and pieces of fabric and make something out of them! :0)

The best part o9f quilting for me is to choose the fabrics and at the end see what came out off it. Thanks for the give away,

Your quilt is gorgeous! Love that you said the applique is easy to turn under. That's what always stops me from trying some of the curved appliques.

The best part of quilting to me is the way it relaxes me and allows me to be creative. I love taking a pattern and adding my own fabric choices to see how it turns out.

Thanks for the chance to win!

This book is so appealing. I have been eyeing it in my LQS. The best part of quilting for me is pulling fabric from my stash to start a project without having to purchase anything.

Beautiful work. Umm it is hard to pick out just one "best" thing about quilting...love the friends I have made through quilting...ladies I may never have brushed shoulders with otherwise. Love the fabric choices we have today, love the coziness of a finished quilt, love that Mr. O takes pride in my accomplishments and even brags about me to others...need I go on? I would love to this book...sign me up please!

What I love the most about quilting is how it makes me feel...relaxed,safe,at peace and closer to God....very soothing to the soul....I would love to be entered in your drawing...thanks for your great giveaway...many blessings to you and yours... Melody

Wendy, your quilt is beautiful. I always enjoy your blog and seeing what your next project is.
I took up quilting because I wanted to create something special for the people I love. Most of the quilts I have made were gifts and it pleases me to see them being used.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to win Cheryl's book.

Shakerwood said...

Of course you had to do the nine-patch quilt. I'm sure you will get this finished in no time.

I like the whole process but I think my favorite part is starting a new project - picking out the pattern, the fabrics, caressing them, putting them in color coordinated piles, putting them all in a project bag .... but that's when it stops. I really need to move past that point! LOL

My favorite part of quilting is seeing the look on the recipient's eyes when they open their present of a quilt. I love the warmth that I see come forth and the happiness of their expression with my gift. It makes all the yucky cutting worth it!! (Now, you know my least favorite part too!) Thanks for a chance to win such a beautiful book :)

Colleen said...

The fun part for me is taking classes. But, I love the peace and solitude of sewing in my sewing room as well.

Sunnybec said...

I would have said making something pretty from pieces of fabric. But we had to have our old dog put to sleep just over a week ago and my quilting friends have been fabulous, emailing me everyday to make sure I am okay, without them it would have been much harder, so for me it has to be my friends that are my favourite part. Thanks for the giveaway. Linda

I love it all, but my least favorite is the cutting. All the new quilty friends is a plus

I love, love your 9 patch! I have to have this book! Hmmm...my favorite - I really think I love it all. Maybe my favorite part depends on the day. Sometimes you are just in the mood to shop for a new project. Other times it's nice to finish something. I love all of the great people that I've met through quilting and on blogs. Yep...I think I just love it all!

I LOVE this quilt! I'd love to win the book. Okay, I'm going to be honest about my favourite part of being a quilter...don't judge me now!

I am a total fabric junkie! I have a theory that the chemical they spray on the fabric to keep it from fading on the shelf is addictive to some people...mainly me! I feel myself relax when I cut, sew or stroke my fabrics. So there you go...now I'm outed. An addict...sigh...

Thanks for the great giveaway!

Cheryl's book looks so awesome. I love quilting. My favorite part would be cutting up the pieces and putting it back together again :-) It's like a big puzzle. I love to see it become something out of nothing. I love the beauty of the fabric and the peace it brings to my spirit. It's my therapy.

I love the creativity each person brings to a design. You can see 5 copies of the same quilt and not always recognize them as the same quilt due to individual interpretations.

I love the community and sharing of quilters and their skills.

I enjoy going on holidays and finding quilt shops, quilts and sewing notions that have to come home with me.

Choose 1 part, really? You're kidding? What's not to like/lo ve, about quilting? I think we all love so many parts, the colors, the feel of the fabric, choosing a project, the sewing even the sound of the machine, the recipient, the satisfaction of the completed quilt. Going into the fabric store is like heaven I never want to leave, so much eye candy. I have to stop, I'm of a certain age and I'm getting all HOT just thinking about it all! Thanks for the great giveaway! I need to go rest a little. ;-> Toni Anne

My favorite part of quilting is the moment I sit down at my machine and start stitching a new project. The tedious part is over. I've decided on a pattern, chosen the fabrics, and cut the pieces (that's the most tedious part). Then the fun begins for me.

Beautiful quilt! The question is not an easy one. I enjoy the freindships I have built while quilting. I think my least favourite is the cutting. I like the planning and stitching (especially when I get to stitch with friends) but I also love to do the finish quilting and then there is the binding which to me is like finishing a good book. I hate to have the story end but then you also know the whole journey and the memories you have created. ahhh what's not to love.
